Bridge Project -- Summer Faculty Workshop 2003
August 13-17, 2003

Hotlist:   Application,   Travel Info,   Schedule.

The NSF-funded Vector Calculus Bridge Project seeks to "bridge the gap" between the way mathematicians on the one hand, and physical scientists and engineers on the other, do vector calculus. We believe the way to do this is to emphasize the geometry of vector calculus. We have developed a series of guided group activities to do just that, and have written an Instructor's Guide to accompany them.

This workshop will teach participants how to use our materials, including discussions of the motivation behind their development. The workshop is primarily aimed at those interested in actually using our materials in the (mathematics or physics) classroom, but anyone interested in our approach to teaching vector calculus is encouraged to apply. Participants will be provided with copies of our materials, including the Instructor's Guide.

The costs of housing and meals in Corvallis will be covered with NSF funding, but participants or their institutions are responsible for the costs of transportation to and from Corvallis. The workshop proper is being scheduled for three full days, from 8/14/03 to 8/16/03. Participants should plan to arrive by dinner time 8/13 if possible for a get-acquainted dinner; accommodation for four nights will be provided.

Further information will be posted here as it becomes available. Please don't hesitate to contact either of us with any questions if you are interested in participating.
